Did You Know...

Of the five types of twin births, about 40% are fraternal boy/girl, followed by girl/girl fraternal and boy/boy fraternal. Identical twins are the least common, with boy/boy identical representing the least common percentage of all twin births.

Did You Know...

Genetic factors do not have much, if any, affect on the incidence of identical twins. Identical twins do not run in families. Fraternal twins, however, CAN run in the family. Female fraternal twins have a one in 17 chance of giving birth to their own set of fraternal twins, probably because many carry a gene for hyperovulation, which means they release more than one egg during ovulation. And, if a woman has already given birth to fraternal twins, the chance of another set increases fourfold.

You'll increase your odds of having twins/multiples if you live in Massachusetts or Connecticut. A recent study found that rates in these states were at least 25% higher than the national rate in the United States.
